From Studio Plate Reverb to a "Double Plate" Reinterpretation

Plate reverb is a classic studio effect: a large metal plate set into vibration, captured and amplified to create a dense, silky, and very musical space. Catalinbread has specialized in these "vintage-accurate" effects but with a modern approach: reproducing the spirit and texture while adding practical controls that the original machines did not offer.
The Talisman Ghost takes the concept further by simulating two EMT 140-type plates operating in tandem. This architecture delivers a spacious and luxurious sound, with integrated modulation that provides a "ghostly" sensation: movement in the reverb tail without turning your dry signal into a permanent chorus.

For Which Guitarists and Styles?

The Talisman Ghost is designed for guitarists seeking a characterful reverb capable of shifting from a short "small room" ambiance to long, almost infinite washes without losing the playing feel. It suits both intermediate and advanced players: the controls are simple, but the palette is wide.
Style-wise, it shines in blues and rock by adding depth to clean and crunch tones, and becomes a formidable tool in indie, post-rock, and ambient genres when pushing the Time and Mix controls. In the studio, it provides a very "plate-like" depth that sits easily in a mix. Live, the pre-delay helps keep the attack clear even with heavy reverb.

Controls and Features: Sculpting Space Without Losing Precision

The controls on the Talisman Ghost are designed to shape the reverb like a sound engineer would on a plate reverb, but in pedal format. The Mix adjusts the amount of affected signal from 0 percent to 100 percent, ranging from a subtle halo to a fully immersive effect. The Time controls the tail length, from a short room to a very long sustain, perfect for atmospheric intros.
The Pre Delay (up to about 100 ms) is key to maintaining clarity: you first hear your attack, then the reverb opens behind it, as if your amp were miked in a real studio room. The Vol control adjusts the overall output volume, handy for balancing levels between bypass and effect or compensating for a dense mix.
Finally, the Tone does more than darken or brighten: it introduces a post-processing doubling effect that adds a sense of movement and dynamics to a reverb that might otherwise remain static. This is what makes the Ghost especially lively on sustained chords, arpeggios, and long lead notes.

Sound

The Talisman Ghost delivers a dense, smooth, and three-dimensional plate reverb with even diffusion reminiscent of major studio productions. The core sound remains defined, and the "Ghost" effect adds subtle movement to the tail: you get a sense of width and depth without the guitar losing its central position.
Depending on your settings, you can aim for a short and elegant reverb to "finish" a clean tone, a very musical medium plate for rhythm parts, or long decays that envelop the entire spectrum for cinematic textures. The pedal responds well to dynamics: the softer you play, the more the reverb blends; the harder you attack, the pre-delay and diffusion preserve articulation.
