A "Deluxe" Clyde: The Spirit of the Vox Clyde McCoy, Reliable and Modernized

The Clyde Deluxe Wah follows the lineage of the 1960s Vox "Clyde McCoy" wah-wahs, renowned for their open, vocal, and organic character. Fulltone embraces this philosophy (vintage-typed inductance, expressive sweep) while adding features expected on a modern pedalboard: precise input level adjustment, multiple selectable voicings, and especially a buffer/boost section designed to avoid bass loss, interactions with other pedals, and erratic behavior with heavy distortion.

Who This Wah Is For: From Tight Funk to Massive Rock, Without Fighting the Gain

This wah is aimed at guitarists who want a very foot-expressive pedal, but also a sound-shaping tool. In "traditional" playing, it excels in funk, soul, blues, and classic rock (percussive attack, pronounced vowel sounds, articulate chords). In modern contexts, it maintains presence on more loaded rigs: alternative rock, stoner, hard rock, metal, and even ambient textures when "parked" on a specific position before delay/reverb.

Live, its buffer/boost makes it easier to cut through the mix in solos and keep a solid wah presence in front of both clean amps and high-gain channels. In the studio, it becomes a true "musical EQ": place the pedal, find the resonance point, and get that "Vox-like" coloration that can give the impression of "transforming" an American clean tone into a cleaner, more English, and more mid-focused sound.

Controls and Features: Voicings, Clicked Input Level, Buffer/Boost, and Internal Adjustment

The Clyde Deluxe Wah offers a comprehensive approach to modern wah. The 3-position selector adapts the curve and frequency range to your guitar and style: Wacked for a more present low end and a wider "wow," Jimi for the most open and singing 60s signature, and Shaft for a tighter, higher response, perfect for funk and snappy rhythms.

The Input Level control (clicked) serves both as a pickup compensator and as the wah circuit's "input drive": lowering it smooths and keeps cleanliness; raising it adds attack and a more edgy feel, very effective for giving response to a humbucker or thickening a lead.

The JFET buffer/boost section is designed for the field: it isolates the circuit from external influences (cables, following pedals, impedances) and operates only when the wah is activated. The result: a more stable, wider effect, and much better compatibility with high-gain sounds, where some wahs tend to thin out or become harsh. A Buffer Level control allows level adjustment, up to a real boost usable in solos. An internal resonance trimmer lets you fine-tune the "Q" (intensity and focus of the resonance) to go from a rounder wah to a sharper wah.

The Sound

The Clyde Deluxe Wah stands out with a vocal and dynamic character: it follows your playing, respects right/left hand nuances, and maintains an "organic" rather than clinical feel. In Jimi mode, you get a full, singing, very 60s wah, ideal for expressive leads and moving chords. In Wacked, the low end gains authority and the curve widens, perfect for thick riffs, octaves, and saturations that need to stay full. In Shaft, the response is higher and more "quack," with that funky attack that cuts through the mix.

Its major strength remains its performance in real conditions: with the JFET buffer/boost activated, it retains body and definition on complex chains and high-gain amps. This is typically the kind of wah you can also use in "fixed wah" mode to get a very musical mid bump, a sense of extended sustain, and a lead that "sticks" without necessarily adding much distortion.

This pedal is also appreciated on pedalboards of guitarists from very different universes, ranging from alternative rock to metal, illustrating its versatility well.
