The Hammond XK-4 stands as a modern synthesis of the Hammond spirit: a portable instrument designed for keyboardists who want the authenticity of a tonewheel organ without sacrificing editing comfort and the reliability of a stage keyboard. With its Modelled Tone Wheel 2 engine, it does not merely imitate a timbre: it reproduces the life, nuances, and behavior, while expanding the palette with transistor "combo" organ models (Italian, British, Japanese) and customizable classical and theater organ banks.
Keyboard Design
The XK-4 features a light-touch organ keyboard with virtual "multi-contact", designed to replicate the fast response and characteristic feel of historic Hammonds. The drawbars allow instant harmonic blending, while the programmable pitch bend and modulation wheels add contemporary expressiveness for studio and live contexts. The beech wood side panels complete an aesthetic faithful to the brand's DNA, blending tradition and performance instrument.
Sound Quality
Sound generation relies on MTW2 modeling, with precise work on the 91 tonewheels to achieve an organic, rich, and responsive sound. The digital Leslie aims for an immersive experience by modeling movement, speeds, and transitions, with fine control over ramps and mic placement to tailor the stereo image to your amp or front of house. To recapture the character of legendary machines, the XK-4 also includes tube modeling and an emulated matching transformer: enough to thicken the attack, enhance presence, and provide that "vintage" relief that makes a difference in a mix.
