An ABY Designed for Modern Stereo Rigs

ABY boxes are among the simplest and most essential tools for managing a setup: switching from one amp to another, powering two effects chains, or combining multiple sources without constantly replugging. The real challenge begins when working in stereo (ping-pong delays, wide reverbs, stereo multi-effects, modulation pedals with L/R outputs): many solutions are either bulky, noisy, or impractical.

The KMA Machines Stereo AB/Y fits precisely into this logic: a robust and simple stereo box with a passive audio path to preserve signal integrity, and active relay switching for enhanced comfort on stage and in the studio. The result: a stereo ABY switcher made for today's pedalboards, where reliability, silence, and immediate routing feedback are sought.

Who Is It For and In What Contexts Should It Be Used?

This pedal is aimed at guitarists and bassists who want to control a stereo rig without getting lost in complex routers. It is also well suited for keyboards, synths, or machines whenever you need to alternate between two stereo destinations (two amps, two PA systems, two effects chains) or choose between two stereo sources to a common output.

Live, the Stereo AB/Y is perfect for switching from a "dry" path to a "wet" path, sending your stereo signal to the front of house or two amps, or toggling between two pedalboards. In the studio, it becomes a workflow tool: quickly comparing two treatments, routing to two pairs of monitors or two reamping chains, or simplifying sessions where multiple instruments share the same stereo effects chain.

Routing, Controls, and Design: Simple, Clear, Effective

The principle is straightforward: you select A, B, or A plus B, and the pedal handles the rest. The omnidirectional design allows use both in 1-to-2 mode (one stereo input to two stereo outputs) and 2-to-1 mode (two stereo inputs to one stereo output). This is especially practical if your setup evolves: no need to change tools, the Stereo AB/Y adapts.

Switching is handled by a soft relay switching system designed to reduce noise during routing changes, with true bypass to maintain a clean signal when the pedal is disengaged. The distinctly colored LEDs provide real ergonomic benefits: on a dark stage or a crowded pedalboard, you instantly see whether you are on A, B, or a combination.

Finally, with its top-mounted jacks, the Stereo AB/Y optimizes space and facilitates clean cabling, especially in stereo setups where cable count quickly increases. This kind of detail makes all the difference when you want a reliable pedalboard that's quick to set up and easy to troubleshoot.

Sound Quality

Here, we're not talking about an effect that "colors" the sound, but a tool that must not be heard. Thanks to its passive audio path, the KMA Machines Stereo AB/Y aims for maximum transparency: no compression, no implicit equalization, no sense of a "modified" signal. You retain your amp's character, your attack's dynamics, and especially the width of your stereo effects (reverbs, delays, chorus), without any impression of image narrowing.

Its sonic value is therefore indirect but essential: by avoiding switching noise and preserving signal integrity, it allows you to get the best out of a stereo rig, whether you play very spatial ambient and post-rock atmospheres, ultra-clean modern pop sounds, or more classic rock setups where you simply want to control two destinations without stress.
