A Design Unlike Standard Humbuckers
The LR Baggs M1 has become a benchmark among many musicians because it doesn't just "read" the strings: it also conveys the acoustic character of the instrument. Its secret lies in the Three-Dimensional Dynamic Technology, developed by Gary Garret and Lloyd Baggs. Whereas a classic vertical humbucker uses a second coil solely to cancel noise (sometimes at the expense of tone), the M1 takes a more musical approach.
For Stage, Studio, and Demanding Guitarists
The M1 is designed for the acoustic guitarist who wants a reliable, quiet, and feedback-resistant pickup without heavy installation. It mounts directly in the soundhole, and its strap button jack replaces the original strap button: a practical solution for amplified playing in rehearsals, on stage, or in recording, while preserving your guitar's feel and dynamics.
Triaxial, Passive, and Rich in Dynamics: Adding Top Vibration
In the M1, the noise-cancelling coil is suspended beneath the main coil via a mount that allows it to respond in three dimensions. The main coil reacts to the top and generates a signal in the second coil: this interaction produces a more organic sound, as if you had two pickups in the soundhole. The whole system remains passive, with adjustable poles to fine-tune the balance string by string and adapt the pickup to your instrument.

Questions frequently asked
Is the LR Baggs M1 suitable for a steel-string acoustic guitar?
This magnetic pickup is designed for steel-string acoustic guitars and is installed directly in the soundhole.
How to install the pickup without major modifications to the guitar?
Installation is carried out in the soundhole. The output uses a strap-button jack that replaces the original strap button. Passive operation does not require an integrated EQ.
What sound quality does the three-dimensional dynamic technology provide?
The Three-Dimensional Dynamic technology combines the vibration of the strings with that of the guitar body. A suspended coil reacts in three dimensions to capture the influence of the soundboard.
Does the M1 produce hum on stage?
The humbucking design is advertised as hum-free and engineered to resist feedback during amplified use.
Can the balance between strings be adjusted?
Adjustable poles allow fine-tuning of the balance string by string according to the instrument.
