A 5-string Markbass Designed for the Versatility of the MB GV Series
The MB GV 5 Gloxy is designed with a focus on efficiency and versatility: a comfortable luthiery base, a format inspired by classic models, and electronics capable of covering a wide sonic spectrum. The passive mode offers a more direct response, while the preamp opens the door to precise adjustments for stage, studio, or rehearsal use.
For Which Bassists and Styles?
This active 5-string bass is aimed at intermediate to advanced bassists who want a clean and usable low B without sacrificing comfort. The 18 mm / 0.71" string spacing remains natural for slap, chord playing, and technical lines, while maintaining excellent control in fingerstyle. It is particularly suitable for rock, funk, pop, gospel, metal, and contexts where the 5th string provides a solid foundation in the mix.
Sound Characteristics
The MB JJ Style pickups deliver an articulate response, with good definition in the mids and a clear attack, ideal for maintaining line clarity even with high energy. Thanks to a volume potentiometer per pickup and a passive tone control, you can shape the character (rounder, snappier, scooped) before engaging the preamp. The Markbass Instrument Pre preamp with its 3-band EQ allows quick fine-tuning of bass, mids, and treble: convenient for switching from an "old school" passive sound to a more modern and percussive active tone. The combination of linden (balance and warmth) + maple (attack and precision) enhances projection and presence, with solid sustain across the entire neck.
Recommended Compatible Accessories
To maintain the original playability, choose a 5-string long scale string set (34" / 864 mm), for example with gauges 40/120 like the Markbass Strings Nickel factory-installed. A good quality 6.35 mm instrument jack cable is also suitable to fully exploit the active mode.
