The M 49 is a premium choice for sung vocals, voice-over, and solo instruments requiring a warm presence and authoritative low end. Its variable directionality allows shaping the soundstage according to the room, placement, and desired aesthetic, whether for an intimate vocal recording or a detail-rich acoustic ensemble.
Features and Innovations That Make the Difference
At the heart of the M 49, a large diaphragm capsule and tube electronics operating as a pressure gradient receiver produce natural transduction with remarkably controlled noise. The external directionality controller allows continuous adjustment of polar patterns, ensuring consistent off-axis response and excellent room management.
Two "built to order" options enhance its modern performance. First, the bass extension down to 12 Hz lowers the high-pass filter cutoff frequency (from 30 Hz), an asset for capturing the foundation of low voices or the dimension of a room without cutting the sub-bass. Second, the fixed cardioid mode - the most used in studios - increases sensitivity by 2 dB while reducing equivalent noise by 3 dB, ensuring a more intimate proximity effect and an even quieter noise floor.
