The CMC 6 Ug: The Heart of the SCHOEPS Modular System

At SCHOEPS, the modular logic is not just a comfort choice: it is the foundation of the design. A condenser microphone capsule cannot be used directly with a microphone input or a simple cable; it requires a dedicated microphone amplifier responsible for polarizing and amplifying the signal from the capsule. The CMC 6 Ug is precisely this "body" of the microphone: it houses one of the MK capsules from the Modular System to form a complete microphone, perfectly suited to the demands of professional sound recording.

Within the range, the Ug version stands out for its compatibility and power supply flexibility: it accepts standardized phantom power at 12 V (P12) and 48 V (P48), with automatic detection. The philosophy remains that which has made the CMC series renowned: a carefully designed signal path, very clean behavior, and a design made to endure over the years while remaining a reference on sets, in classical music, broadcast, and studio environments.

Who Is the CMC 6 Ug For, and In What Uses Does It Make a Difference?

The CMC 6 Ug is aimed at sound engineers, boom operators, music recordists, and sound designers who want a high-end, scalable, and coherent system. By choosing a CMC amplifier and one or more MK capsules, you adapt your microphone setup to each context: close miking, ambience, stereo pair, vocals, acoustic instruments, or live capture.

The P12 and P48 compatibility is a tangible advantage for hybrid configurations: in the studio, P48 is the most common standard on preamps and audio interfaces. On location or in mobile recording, the ability to work with P12 can offer autonomy benefits depending on the available power supply. Add to this a low-impedance balanced output and strong interference resistance: the CMC 6 Ug performs well both with long cable runs and near more electromagnetically charged environments.

Audio Design: Low Impedance, Symmetry, and Class A for a Clean Signal

An Usable Capsule Signal Without Compromising Transparency

The role of the amplifier is not just to "increase the level." It first supplies the capsule with the necessary current to generate a signal, then converts this very weak, high-impedance signal into a low-impedance signal capable of traveling through a cable without degradation. This conversion is essential to limit sensitivity to disturbances and ensure background noise remains low within a professional sound recording chain.

Balanced Class A Output Stage, Without Transformer or Capacitor

The CMC 6 Ug integrates a balanced Class A output stage designed without transformer or output capacitor. This architecture aims for several audible and measurable benefits: very low output impedance, excellent interference resistance, and distortion kept at a very low level. The result: a stable, clear, and reliable signal, whether for a highly detailed voice-over, a string quartet, or an ambience recording where micro-dynamics matter.

P12 and P48 Power Supply: Automatic Adaptation, Practical for Field Use

The circuit automatically detects whether the phantom power is 12 V or 48 V and adapts accordingly. The characteristics remain generally consistent between the two modes, with the main difference being current adaptation to voltage. In practice, this makes life easier when switching from a studio (P48) to a battery-powered or portable system (P12) without changing the amplifier. Compared to versions or chains dedicated to a single standard, the versatility of the CMC 6 Ug allows maintaining the same signature and workflow.
