Essential Information About the Shure KSM9-HS Vocal Microphone

  • 3/4" Dual Electrostatic Capsule for highly detailed vocal reproduction, with clarity and depth on stage.

  • Two Switchable Polar Patterns: subcardioid for a more "open" pickup, hypercardioid for strong feedback rejection.

  • Class A Preamp and premium components: precise transient response and transparent capture, ideal for demanding vocals.

  • Two-stage Internal Shock Mount: effective reduction of handling noise, delivered with A25E clip and aluminum carrying case.

A Shure Microphone Designed for the Stage, Combining Studio Finesse and Live Performance Demands

Designed for professional stage environments, the Shure KSM9-HS belongs to a "high-end live" approach: delivering a rich and nuanced voice without sacrificing stability and control on stage. Its design emphasizes timbre subtlety and presence in the mix, while remaining robust against real concert challenges (stage monitors, varying distance to the microphone, handling).

For Which Voices and Contexts Is the KSM9-HS Made?

The KSM9-HS is aimed at singers, lead choristers, hosts, and sound engineers seeking very clean vocal capture, with clear articulation and a beautiful sense of depth. It is particularly suited for stages where a "premium" voice without harshness is desired, and where feedback control must remain tight. In hypercardioid mode, it becomes an excellent ally on dense stages, with close wedges or high sound pressure levels.

Switchable Polar Patterns and Internal Design: Precision, Control, and User Comfort

Two Polar Patterns to Choose From: Subcardioid or Hypercardioid

Thanks to its dual capsule, the KSM9-HS offers two complementary polar behaviors. The subcardioid position favors a more natural and forgiving pickup, with a sense of air and smoother handling of movements. The hypercardioid position enhances focus on the source and improves feedback resistance, useful when the stage is noisy or monitors are very present.

Less Proximity Effect, More Consistency

The KSM9-HS is designed to minimize the proximity effect, which helps maintain a balanced voice even if the singer moves closer to or farther from the microphone. Result: fewer unpredictable booming lows, a voice that's easier to EQ, and a more consistent sound from one song to another.

Class A Preamp and Internal Suspension: Clean Capture Even in Live Conditions

Its Class A preamp and high-quality components aim for faithful reproduction, with an excellent transient response to preserve consonant attack and vocal intent definition. The two-stage suspension limits handling noise, a real plus for mobile singers, handheld mic passages, or stages where every detail counts.
