The Captor X Pro: the control center for modern tube rigs
Developed jointly by Two notes and Ampete Engineering, the Torpedo Captor X Pro represents the most ambitious evolution of the brand's digital loadbox range. It combines an amplifier load, an attenuator, a direct recording solution and a complete speaker simulator in a single format.
Its purpose is to simplify professional setups without sacrificing the feel of a real guitar or bass amplifier. The Captor X Pro lets you harness the character of a tube head pushed into its ideal range, while retaining control over the volume on stage, in rehearsal or at home.
Play, record and mic your amplifier without compromising on volume
The Two notes Torpedo Captor X Pro is designed for guitarists and bassists who want to get the most from their amplifier, from demanding home players to professionals moving between the studio, stage and touring. It is particularly well suited to owners of powerful tube heads whose optimal volume is difficult to use in a small environment.
In rehearsal or live, it can power a physical speaker cabinet at a controlled level while simultaneously sending a stereo direct signal ready for the mixing console. In the studio, it becomes a silent, flexible recording solution, ideal for recording at any time via an audio interface, nearfield monitors or headphones.
Its versatile approach suits dynamic vintage tones as well as modern styles requiring a firmer attack: blues, classic rock, hard rock, metal, pop, funk, ambient or instrumental music. It is also highly relevant for bassists using an amplifier head and looking for a precise, full-sounding DI that is easy to integrate into a mix.
Reactive load, programmable attenuation and integrated Torpedo processing
The Captor X Pro accepts the loudspeaker output of an amplifier rated up to 150 watts and offers multi-impedance compatibility at 4, 8 or 16 ohms. The amplifier, loadbox and connected speaker cabinet impedance settings must be matched correctly to protect the equipment and achieve optimum response.
Its load architecture offers three selectable behaviors. Reactive Natural mode reproduces the organic interaction between an amplifier and a speaker cabinet, with generous resonance and a familiar touch. Reactive Presence mode tightens the low-end response and adds greater definition in the highs. Resistive mode uses a more even curve, which is useful when seeking a direct, firm and consistent sound.
The programmable passive auto-transformer attenuator provides 13 fixed attenuation levels, complemented by a silent mode and full speaker level. This design allows you to reduce the volume of a real speaker cabinet without losing the amplifier's identity, while precisely adapting the playing feel according to the selected load voicing.
The color screen, dedicated controls and two encoders make it easy to adjust settings directly from the unit. Torpedo processing further expands the possibilities with true stereo DynIR speaker simulation, impulse response loading, output EQs, a noise gate, post-effects processing and various routing options. The USB-C connection, MIDI and Torpedo Remote app make it easy to integrate the Captor X Pro into a modern rig.
Preserve your amplifier's tone, from open clean sounds to high-gain saturation
The Captor X Pro does not replace your amplifier's preamp or power amp: it preserves their behavior by presenting them with an appropriate load. This approach is particularly valuable with tube amplifiers, whose natural compression, responsiveness and harmonics change significantly when the power amp is working.
In Natural mode, clean tones retain their fullness and crunch tones become more flexible. Presence mode promotes clearer articulation for saturated rhythm parts, complex chords and high-gain sounds. Resistive mode, meanwhile, provides a more controlled feel, with an immediate response that facilitates precise playing and direct recording.
Thanks to its integrated speaker simulation, the DI signal can be shaped to move from a warm vintage sound to a more contemporary, detailed production. The Captor X Pro therefore gives you the freedom to play your amplifier loud without imposing excessive sound levels on those around you.
