A New Chapter in Walrus Audio’s "Storybook Stereo" Universe
The Lore MK II opens a new chapter in Walrus Audio’s "Storybook Stereo" series, alongside the reimagined Fable. It takes the renowned original Lore further by addressing two essential demands from musicians: true stereo compatibility and full MIDI integration. This pedal does not seek to recreate a specific vintage effect; instead, it offers a creative laboratory dedicated to reversed sounds, evolving reverbs and pitch shifts.
Its proprietary MDSP digital engine allows multiple effects to interact within complex chains. Here, repeats do not simply come back: they transform, reverse, stretch and progressively stack on top of one another. The Lore MK II is therefore aimed at guitarists who want to build an atmosphere as expressive and narrative as a played part.
For Guitarists Who Compose with Space and Texture
The Walrus Audio Lore MK II is ideal for intermediate to advanced musicians who want to move beyond the classic realms of delay and reverb. It will find its place in ambient, post-rock, shoegaze, dream pop, film music, experimental indie, atmospheric metal and electronic productions.
It excels on a stereo pedalboard, in front of two amplifiers or in a studio chain with an audio interface. In mono-to-stereo operation, it can already dramatically widen the sound of a single guitar. Its preset, tempo and expression settings also make it a reliable stage companion, while its deep textures naturally inspire composition and sound design sessions.
Five Sonic Worlds, One Pedal Designed for Exploration
Mode I combines a reverse delay with a reverse reverb: notes seem to rise toward the attack and blend into strange trails, perfect for minor chords, cinematic intros and suspended passages. Mode II places a reverse delay within a reverb with an upper octave, creating bright, airy halos that are particularly captivating with fingerpicking.
Mode III builds on this concept with a lower octave, pronounced filtering and harmonic saturation that add density to the sound. It reveals its full potential with an overdrive, distortion or fuzz placed before the pedal. Mode IV combines reverse reverb with forward reverb, featuring harmonic feedback into the upper and lower octaves, as well as time-stretching: a formidable solution for transforming the guitar into an ambient pad or organic drone.
Mode V features two interacting pitch delays. Depending on the selected delay time, it can evoke a shifting harmonizer or a rhythmic sequencer. Fourth, fifth and octave intervals follow one another in different orders, creating rich harmonic patterns from staccato notes, arpeggios or minimalist phrases.
The Tweak knob provides access to five secondary parameters via its dedicated control: stereo width, modulation speed, modulation shape, Shift value and Ramp duration. Modulation can range from 0.1 Hz to 5 Hz and take on a sine, square or random shape. The expression input can control the parameter of your choice or serve as an external tap tempo input.
The Sound
The Lore MK II delivers a broad, detailed and thoroughly immersive sonic signature. Its reverse delay retains excellent clarity, even when feedback loops become dense. The reverbs can be delicate and shimmering in Mode II, deep and opaque in Mode III, or truly monumental in Mode IV. The stereo image creates an enveloping sense of movement, particularly effective with headphones, in the studio or through a two-amp setup.
The pedal responds extremely well to playing dynamics: a light arpeggio feeds airy textures, while a more forceful attack triggers effects that are more prominent and dramatic. The original Lore has notably been spotted on the pedalboards of Anthony Gonzalez from M83, James "Munky" Shaffer from Korn and Cory Brandan Putman from Norma Jean—three artists whose worlds aptly illustrate the breadth of its possibilities, from cinematic ambient to heavier, more experimental textures.
